Born into a musical family, there was never a doubt that I would follow in the footsteps of my father. My father started his career as lead guitar for Hank Williams and Little Jimmy Dickens. When he retired from music he tried radio as a Disc Jockey for KMOP Radio in Tucson Arizona, realizing that wasn't his calling, he gave up radio and started his own nightclub called "Rusty's Frontier Club".
I remember sitting in the back of the club with my mother & my older sister Michelle, all eyes were glued on Daddy up there singing, he was our hero. Folks would come from all over to hear him, I use to think it was phenomenal to have that much of a following. As soon as he started "Statue of a Fool" or "You Gave Me A Mountain" the people would literally get out of their seats and get as close as they could to watch and hear him perform these two ballads. Needless to say there was never a dry eye in the place! I never seen a man put so much heart and soul into songs as my Dad did. It was then that I realized I wanted to stand on a stage, I wanted to touch hearts and to realize that I love what I am doing and I love performing songs that mean something to them, in their life, they can relate too.
I started my career in 1977 and officially retired from music in 2007. In the past 30 years I've met the most incredible people. I stood on stages in Las Vegas, Nashville, and many small towns in between. I've gone to sleep in Washington to only awaken in Wyoming, have traveled from sea to shining sea. Life on the road was one of the most incredible journeys that I've ever taken. Many miles, many faces, many tears and lots of laughter has filled my heart for all those years.
I'm currently being a Mom and I have to admit it's the best time of my life. My son Lance is now 27 and is still protecting Mom. He has returned from three tours to Iraq and is currently out of the Army and working on his Bachelors in Computer Science. My precious angel Rachel is now 24 and is positively the light that ignites my heart. I am blessed, not only in my music career that has spanned 3 decades, but in my family.
A day doesn't go by that I don't thank God for giving me the joys in my life. From my family to my drive and determination to make my talent stand out and succeed at every corner, but most of all my strength to come out of the obstacles I had to climb with the help of many friends.
I've had the courage to do what I've loved doing, thanks to my daughter. Watching her achieve all that she needed to in a world where society tells us who to like, dislike, what music to listen to and what not too, I've watched her deal with so much, that the most rewarding experiences were those when I had the pleasure of sharing the stage with her and singing a song to her. Nothing is more rewarding then the love of your children and I thank God for mine.
I thank you all that have always continued to stay in touch with me, and have watched my passion come to life on stage.
